  1.                                       KERATOMETRY

  3. The proper technique should be used to obtain accurate readings:
  4.  
  5. -adjust eyepiece
  6. -calibrate instrument
  7. -properly position patient
  8. -properly position and focus 
  9.    the mires
  10. -accurately align mires for  
  11.    measurement
  12. -may make 2 or 3 measurements 
  13.    on each eye
  14. -extend the range of the instrument 
  15.    if necessary

  18. Remember that the keratometer reads from 2 points on the cornea approximately 3.0 mm apart.
